Serving Denver & Boulder Metro Homes
What Are Low NOx and Ultra-Low NOx Systems?
- Low NOx systems typically emit up to 40 ng/J
- Ultra-Low NOx systems meet stricter standards of 14 ng/J or less
Why Low NOx Systems Are Becoming Required in Colorado
- Many new furnace and water heater installs will require
- Low NOx or ULN-rated equipment
- Older systems may no longer meet compliance standards when replaced
- Homeowners will need to plan ahead when upgrading heating systems
How Low NOx Technology Works
- Pre-mix burners that combine fuel and air before ignition
- Two-stage or staged combustion for better control
- Lower flame temperatures, which reduce nitrogen oxide formation
Low NOx Furnaces
Low NOx furnaces are designed to heat your home efficiently while minimizing environmental impact.
What to Expect:
- Meets 40 ng/J (Low NOx) or 14 ng/J (Ultra-Low NOx) standards
- Uses specialized burners for cleaner operation
- Delivers consistent, reliable heating performance
When to Consider a Low NOx Furnace:
- Your current furnace is aging or failing
- You’re upgrading to meet new Colorado regulations
- You want a more energy-efficient, environmentally friendly system
Low NOx Water Heaters
Modern water heaters are also evolving to meet stricter emission standards without compromising hot water performance.
Options Available:
- Tank (storage) water heaters
- Tankless (on-demand) water heaters
Key Benefits:
- Up to 75% reduction in emissions
- High-efficiency performance
- Compliance with 10–14 ng/J requirements in regulated areas
Whether you prefer a traditional tank or a tankless system, Low NOx options are available to fit your home and usage needs.
Repair vs. Replacement: What’s Right for You?
If your current system is still functioning, you may be wondering whether to repair or replace it.
Consider Replacement If:
- Your system is nearing the end of its lifespan
- Repairs are becoming frequent or costly
- You want to proactively meet new Colorado standards
Consider Repair If:
- Your system is relatively new
- It still meets efficiency and compliance requirements
- Issues are minor and cost-effective to fix
Our team can evaluate your system and help you make the best decision for your home and budget.

CO-PI Plumbing and Drain are the best. They put all my worries and stress at ease the minute they showed up to help me with my Plumbing emergency. Fast, Efficient and Friendly! True professionals. Thank you CO-PI Plumbing and Drain!
Arrived within 2 hours of my call. I had reported that the main line needed cleaned out, and that two sink drains were draining slow. Did a main line cleanout and that fixed the basement sink issue. The upstairs drain was still gurgling but he explained it was due to the accordion connection that had been used and that there was no back up. It would have been easy for them to tell me the sink drains needed scoped, but they didn't..I appreciate their honesty.
